Examination Procedure: Objective Type
The Bihar Staff Selection Commission may conduct a preliminary examination for a large number of applications (more than 40,000). The preliminary examination may be conducted in more than one phase if the number of applicants is high. The process of preparing the result of the preliminary examination will be done through normalization.
The preliminary examination will be objective type (Multiple Choice Questions). Candidates equal to five times the number of vacancies, category-wise, will be selected for the main examination based on the preliminary examination results. Separate instructions will be published for the main examination.
The question paper will be objective and multiple-choice based. The total number of questions will be 150. 04 marks will be awarded for each correct answer, and 01 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer. The duration of the examination will be 02:00 hours. The language of the question paper will be Hindi and English. If there is any discrepancy in the Hindi and English versions of the questions, the English version will be considered valid.
The prescribed syllabus for the preliminary examination is as follows:
(क) Preliminary Examination: There will be one General Knowledge paper in the preliminary examination, which will include the following subjects:
(i) General Studies - 35 Questions
(ii) Science - 75 Questions
(iii) Mathematics and Mental Ability (Quantitative Aptitude/Reasoning) - 40 Questions
(ख) Syllabus: The syllabus for the preliminary examination is as follows:
(i) General Studies: The purpose of this section is to test the candidate's general awareness of the environment around them and its application to society. Questions will also be asked about current events and matters of everyday observation and experience as may be expected of an educated person. It will also include questions related to scientific aspects as they pertain to general awareness. Special emphasis will be on current events related to Bihar, India, and neighboring countries.
(ii) Social Studies:
* Scientific progress, national/international awards, Indian languages, books, scripts, capital, currency, sports-athletes, important events.
* India and its neighboring countries: History of India, culture, geography, economic scenario, independence movement, major features of Indian agriculture and natural resources, Constitution of India and political system, Panchayati Raj, community development, five-year plans, and the contribution of Bihar in the independence movement.
(ख) Science: The questions in Science will be based on the Intermediate (10+2) level syllabus.
(ग) Mathematics and Mental Ability Test:
(i) Mathematics: Questions related to number systems, computation of whole numbers, decimals and fractions, relationships between numbers, fundamental arithmetic operations, percentages, ratio and proportion, average, interest, and profit and loss.
(ii) Mental Ability Test: Questions of both verbal and non-verbal types may be asked. These may include: analogy, similarity and difference, spatial visualization, problem-solving, analysis, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, coding and decoding.
Tie-breaking rule for merit list: In case of a tie in the marks obtained in the merit list, the candidate older in age will be placed higher in the merit list. In case of a tie in marks and date of birth, the candidate whose name appears earlier in the English alphabet will be placed higher in the merit list.
